Table Talk · Lesson 8
When to Walk Away From the Tables
Pre-commit exit rules for money, time, and emotion — and treat walking as skill, not failure.
Three stop lights
Cash stop: session loss cap or stop-win hit. Clock stop: planned end time. Emotion stop: anger, numbness, urgency, or chase self-talk.
The first light wins. Negotiating a fourth quarter after a stop light is how limits die.
House edge does not pause because you are due. Walking is how you keep entertainment money finite.
Social exit scripts
You can say “I’m colored up for the night” without a speech. Friends who demand you stay for their mythology are not managing your bankroll.
Switch to food, a show, or sleep. Replacing gambling with another activity makes exits stick.
If walking feels impossible, that is information about risk — seek appropriate help resources where you live.
After you leave
Log the session honestly. Do not reopen apps or walk back “just to look.”
Celebrate process compliance even when the scoreboard lost.
Takeaways
- Cash, clock, and emotion stops are co-equal exit triggers.
- Walking away is competent play under house edge reality.
- Post-exit logging beats re-entry browsing.
